Born on January 26, 1958 in Metairie, Louisiana, DeGeneres spent her early childhood with parents Elliot and Betty DeGeneres and older brother Vance. Her parents ended their marriage in 1973, at which time she and her mother Betty relocated to Texas after remarrying.

It was during the run of "Ellen" that DeGeneres came out as a homosexual on the Oprah Winfrey Show. Her sitcom was cancelled in 1998.
In 2003, DeGeneres threw her hat into the talk show ring with her popular, "The Ellen DeGeneres Show". Her talk show remains on air today, bringing in awards such as her winning the Outstanding Talk Show Host of the year from 2005-2008. Her success in television has brought Ellen DeGeneres both fame and fortune. Her estimated net worth is said to be $285 million dollars.
