Filming pythons hatching can be very time consuming. The python hatchlings will poke their heads through the leathery egg shell repeatedly, tasting the air and than disappear back into the safety of the egg. Still, one gets rewarded when the unusual happens in front of the camera. Python hatchlings leave their nest soon after hatching, but some hatchling linger for some time and to my surprise two hatchlings got agitated and began fighting each other into a tight coil. The fight lasted for ca. twenty minutes and no hatchling was injured or killed. They simply separated and went of in different directions. I still don’t know why the snakes were fighting but it was an interesting scene to film nevertheless. Pythons hatching was filmed by Heiko Kiera aka Ojatro in South Florida in 2014.
