Berlin is often touted as a paradise for students, creative types - anyone on a small budget. But a growing population, a lack of new housing and rampant gentrification have sent rents soaring, making living in the German capital more and more expensive. Thousands of protesters took to the streets to demand more affordable housing. Among the protesters were members of a citizens' initiative who want to reclaim apartments from private investors and bring back social housing.
