On the night of 16-17 June 1918, without any court case or investigation, Czar Nikolai II, his family and some of the people closest to them were assassinated in Yekaterinburg. Several decades on, an "eyewitness", at one time a prison inmate and now a long-term resident at a psychiatric hospital, believes he assassinated the czar, and recounts the events of that terrible night.
Originally there where created Russian and English variants of the movie. Actually, each of them is an original film. The Russian actors have memorized and voiced the English-written dialogues. It achieved the conjunction between the image and the sound that was later createdеby the English-speaking actors on the dubbing in England.
An English version of the movie is a bit shorter then the Russian one. And especially for this variant by John Altman there was written another music.
The dubbing if English version was managed in London by the famous sound producer Paul Carr.
