Running a mountain bike is an expensive pastime, meaning it is often tempting to reach for those cheaper consumables such as brake pads. We often hear that budget brand X or internet store Y has 'alright' pads for a fiver. Are these budget brake pads up to scratch? We've picked up some expensive pads to trial them against their cheap and cheerful counterparts, to do our best to measure just how much extra performance a quality part can get you, and if the price hike is worth it!
