On this episode of AMC Mail Bag (Sunday May 11th 2014) we address the following viewer email questions:
Eric Broomes writes: I am a big fan of you guys. I watch the show everyday. You were talking about cyclops and I was wondering if they didn't show cyclops dying because they would use him for other films? Like X-Men: Apocalypse which if you read the comic was on the side of apocalypse. Could we see something like that as a end credit teaser for Days of Future Past? Thanks and bring on the filthy.
Rob Lunde writes: Do you think the opening weekend box office of "X-Men: Days of Future Past" will be affected negatively by the Bryan Singer controversy? I myself tend to think no, as he's a director, not a star of the film. Also, do you think a strong second weekend for "Godzilla" could prevent it from reaching the $125M opening weekend number that the studio is expecting?
Nathaniel Scott writes: When a movie gets made, we know the studio has a production budget and an additional marketing budget, so why not re-market classic or modern great films (eg. Star Wars original saga, Gladiator, The Godfather), using a regular production budget but having no production cost. There is already positive hype and word of mouth, and with a full scale marketing campaign, surely the studio could make a lot of money and please the fans. I'd love to see some classics back on the big screen! I know this is done occasionally but why not more often?
Nick Vurva writes: With Andy Serkis's Ceaser having a major role and a big speaking part in the upcoming Apes movie, will it be possible for him to finally get nominated for an Oscar?
Austin Valdez writes: Hey AMC, my question for you guys is: So we've heard that we will be getting a Mrs. Doubtfire sequel and a Beverly Hills cop IV. I can't seem to get excited for these movies due to the long hiatus they have been on. For some reason though, I wouldn't mind an Austin Powers 4. I think it would do better at the box office than any of these two movies. What do you guys think? Thanks guys! You rule.
Warren Hood writes: My question is about production budgets. I'd like to know what are the biggest reasons certain films budgets are so high. Beyond the obvious(heavy CGI, Talent Salaries, locations etc.) One example might be White house Down and Olympus has fallen, 150m versus 70m. Is this attributed solely to Jamie Foxx and Channing Tatum's quotes? I'm just curious how some movies budgets are so vastly different.
