Algeria is bracing for widespread protests as demonstrators await confirmation on whether or not President Abdelaziz Boutiflika will seek a fifth term. Crowds turned out in the capital Algiers and other towns calling on the 82-year-old Bouteflika to drop plans to run again. Bouteflika has been in power since 1999 and is reported to be in poor health and receiving care in Geneva, Switzerland. Rallies demanding his resignation have been gaining momentum ahead of the deadline for contenders to officially register their candidacy.
