An Elephant Story is a documentary about the African Elephant in modern Africa. Once superabundant on the continent, elephant populations have been drastically reduced by hunting for ivory and meat in the last 200 years. Yet there are pockets of hope for these gentle giants, found in dedicated elephant conservation reserves like Addo Elephant Park and Tembe Elephant Park in South Africa. Here they are protected from poachers and within the parks, elephant numbers are growing. Yet managing such massive mammals presents challenges for conservationists in itself. Both Addo and Tembe offer viable models for elephant conservation in Africa and it is places like these that will help write a hopeful future for the planet's largest land animal.
