SUMMARY:
- Everyone is extremely nice here all the time, and it's awesome. But for some reason, American waiters constantly ask me if everything's okay. And it's not always easy to respond to them with a mouth full of pizza!
- In Italy, when we order a salad, we get a plate full of tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and other fresh vegetables. But here, a salad is pretty much just a plate of lettuce!
- My American roommate always wears shoes indoors. At first I thought that he's the only one, but then I saw more people doing it. Am I weird or something if I wear socks or go barefoot at home?
- The first time I realized that America truly is “the land of the free” was when I saw a person wearing pajamas outside.
- A couple of weeks after I moved to America, my new friends got me into hiking. Apparently, you have a thing for it in the US!
- I watch a lot of TV on the weekends, and I must say, your commercial breaks are legendary! They're so long sometimes that once I actually fell asleep during one of them.
- As for the other surprises, in America you see the flag everywhere.
- I can also say that Americans definitely aren’t lazy! They work a lot and have only a few holidays during the year, which is kinda sad.
- The thing that truly scares me, though, is public bathrooms. Why do you have such huge gaps in the stalls?
- Those paper shopping bags with no handles is another thing I don't get. They're so awkward to carry, and they can easily tear apart.
- The measurement thing still confuses me. I don’t think I’ll ever understand miles, feet, and inches. The whole world uses the metric system!
- In America, you have to open the presents right away in front of everybody! And this makes it a lot harder to pretend you love the masking tape someone got you for your birthday!
- But the biggest question I have is why don't you travel abroad more often? I know that it's cheaper for you to fly domestically or take a road trip, but it's still fun to dive into new cultures, right?
