While hydrogen fuel cell vehicles might sound like the future, truth is that the Japanese automaker Toyota has been developing the alternative fuel for use in automobiles for over a decade. What began as RAV4 with a few ancillary tanks has developed into the first fully functional factory ready hydrogen fuel cell vehicle that will be known as the 2015 Toyota FCV. Unlike battery electric vehicles, fuel cell vehicles carry a smaller battery pack because they are able to generate their own electricity onboard thanks to the process of electrolysis where hydrogen gas passes through the fuel cell stack whereby electrons are stripped out and the remaining byproduct is pure clean water. Another neat feature for the 2015 Toyota FCV is that the hydrogen fuel cell vehicle has an extension cord that comes out of the trunk and is capable of providing power to a medium sized home for over a week on a single tank of gas.
