This is Clevver's Trophy Life and the very long award season has come down to this epic finale. The heart-wrenching, true story about a free man, kidnapped and sold into slavery was named Best Picture of the year at the 86th Academy Awards. I am of course talking about 12 Years A Slave. Producer Brad Pitt accepted the award and thanked the film's director, Steve McQueen, who dedicated the award to the millions who have endured slavery and the 21 million who still suffer today. In addition to Best Picture, 12 Years A Slave screenwriter John Ridley won for Best Adapted Screenplay and newcomer Lupita Nyong'o was named Best Supporting Actress, surprising many who thought Jennifer Lawrence had it in the bag for American Hustle. The last time a Best Picture winner only won 3 awards was in 2004 when Crash won the awards for Original Screenplay and Editing in addition to the top prize. If you'd like a full rundown of the best of the best from The Oscars, be sure to click right here. 12 Years A Slave was definitely the favorite going into tonight, but with Gravity taking 7 awards, did you think it was more deserving or did the Academy get it right?
