SUMMARY:
- The first message was supposed to contain the word “login”, to be sent to Stanford Research Institute on October 29, 1969. Instead, the system crashed halfway though and sent only two letters. This cryptic “lo” message is the first ever delivered via internet connection.
- On May 3, 1978, 393 users of ARPANET received an e-mail message in all caps, desperately trying to sell them computers.
- Speaking of annoying things we have to deal with on the internet: The first ad on the internet was a banner ad and it was placed on the HotWired website in 1994.
- The first ever website came to be on August 6, 1991. It was made by Tim Berners-Lee, a computer scientist and the father of the World Wide Web. His site contained information about creating a web page and about the web in general.
- The first image on the internet is a picture of the comedy music group Les Horribles Cernettes, and it was posted in 1992.
- The true birthday of the emoji is November 1, 1997, and their home country is Japan. On that day, the first phone to include an emoji was released, but it was too expensive for most of the population.
- The first video footage ever broadcasted on the internet was a live-session of rock-n-roll band Severe Tire Damage. The band, of course, consisted of computer scientists.
- If you think that no one had the idea of a social network before, then you’re going to be surprised that the first social media website predates Facebook by 6 years! This site was called SixDegrees.com and was made in 1997.
- The first tweet states that Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter, is setting up his “twttr” on March 21st, 2006. It’s that simple.
- Kevin Systrom, co-founder of Instagram uploaded his first photo on July 16, 2010. It was a dog! Now Kevin runs a whole different page for photos of his dog Dolly, which is sometimes credited for being the reason to create Instagram in the first place.
