People have never known dinosaurs better than they do now. These fascinating creatures appeared more than 230 million years ago and ruled this planet for the next 160 million years. And even though they died out 65 million years ago, people are still mesmerized by these mighty reptiles. But not all dinosaurs are equally popular nowadays. So here are the top 10 dinosaurs you’ll never forget!

- Paleontologists know this since the first Spinosaurus fossils were found in Egypt in 1910. Its name means "spine lizard," which is quite fitting given the fact that a row of huge webbed spines decorated its back.
- Due to these conflicting characteristics, paleontologists gave the Archaeopteryx the nickname "Dino bird". This bird-like dinosaur wasn't too big. It rarely got over 20 inches long, and it weighed only about 2 pounds.
- Stegosauruses were large and in charge. Fully grown, they grew about 30 feet in length, were 15 feet tall, and weighed about 5 tons.
- The name Brachiosaurus means "arm lizard" in Greek. If you’re wondering why they didn’t call it “neck lizard” (I mean, just look at it!), it’s because of the dinosaur’s front legs.
- As for the Pterodactylus, it was the first pterosaur ever discovered. This creature walked on 4 legs and, unlike some other pterosaurs, it had teeth. This predator weighed about 2 pounds and its wingspan, as well as its length, was about 3 feet.
- The name of the Brontosaur, which is one of the largest dinosaurs that ever existed, means "thunder lizard" in Greek. Brontosaurs roamed the Earth about 150 million years ago, grew up to 75 feet in length, and could weigh as much as 25 tons.
- At 88 feet long, the Diplodocus was the longest dino that we know of. They weighed about 12 tons, which is twice as much as an African elephant.
- An adult Triceratops was 10 feet tall and 26 feet long. Actually, its skull alone was 7 feet in length! As for its weight, it was 6 to 12 tons.
- What the movie did get right is the Velociraptor's nasty claws that it used to kill its prey. There's one more thing about velociraptors that very few people are aware of.
- The Tyrannosaurus rex walked on two large and sturdy hind legs. As for its front legs, I’m sure you know they were pretty small. But that doesn’t mean they weren’t strong!
