１９８６年名古屋大学大学院工学研究科博士後期課程修了。工学博士。（株）東芝を経て、２００４年名古屋大学大学院工学研究科教授。１９９７年英国ケンブリッジ大学キャベンディッシュ研究所客員研究員。２００９年～２０１２年名古屋大学大学院工学研究科附属プラズマナノ工学研究センター長、２０１３年より名古屋大学プラズマ医療科学国際イノベーション研究センター長。２００９年～２０１１年応用物理学会常務理事、現在日本学術会議連携委員。専門は、プラズマ科学とその応用。平成２２年度文部科学大臣表彰科学技術賞(研究部門)(２０１０年)、第９回産学連携功労者賞(科学技術政策担当大臣賞）(２０１１年)、他１２件を受賞。

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
