Mai Tadokoro moved to the United States in 2002 from Nara, Japan. Mai is an active percussionist and educator in the Kansas City region. She is also a founding member of Ad Astra Percussion, a new music percussion ensemble group in Lawrence, Kansas. Mai has performed with the Kansas City Civic Orchestra, Kansas City Wind Symphony, Fountain City Brass Band, and Opera Festival Neue Eutiner Festspiel in Eutin, Germany. She currently holds a graduate teaching assistant position at the University of Kansas, where she is pursuing a DMA degree. Mai will perform "Velocities (Moto Perpetuo)" by Joseph Schwantner on the marimba.
