If you look at the Australia Zoo's website, it would be easy to conclude that the whole place was created by the legendary Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, but the zoo's origins actually stretch back to his father, Bob, the original conservationist.

Bob Irwin's book, "The Last Crocodile Hunter", details the origins of the zoo, as well as his life before the zoo, when it began life in 1970 as the Beerwah Reptile Park. It's evolved many times since then, but today, Bob Irwin is no longer involved with the zoo, and his departure was pretty messy.
