In today’s English lesson you will learn how to quickly agree with what someone has said by using the words So or Neither. This lesson will take a look at how to use so and how to use neither in various tenses and with various modal verbs.

So is used to agree with a positive sentence that someone has said. If someone says something and you think the same or have had the same experience, you use: So + auxiliary verb / modal verb + I.
I am happy. - So, am I.
He lives in Canada. - So, do I.
I am studying English. - So, am I.
She was tired. - So, was I.
They ate pizza last night. - So, did I.
He has visited Korea. - So, have I.
I can speak English. - So, can I.
He will study hard. - So, will I.
I should practice phrasal verbs. - So, should I.

Neither is used to agree with a negative sentence that someone has said. If someone says something negative (using ‘not’) and you think the same or also haven’t had the same experience, you use: Neither + auxiliary verb / modal verb + I.
I am not sick. - Neither, am I.
He doesn’t have a car. - Neither, do I.
They aren’t studying English. - Neither, am I.
She wasn’t angry. - Neither, was I.
I didn’t go to the library last week. - Neither, did I.
He hasn’t won the lottery. - Neither, have I.
I can’t speak Spanish. - Neither, can I.
He won’t travel abroad this year. - Neither, will I.
I shouldn’t eat so much junk food. - Neither, should I.

*Auxiliary verbs are helping verbs such as: the ‘be’ verb, do, and have. Modal verbs are verbs that help to express possibility or necessity such as: can, could, will, would, should, etc.
