In 2012, the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development ('Rio+20') renewed the global political commitment to taking a holistic approach to tackling modern world challenges. One of the most important outcomes is that the world is currently debating the concrete agenda for the future -- Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) -- which build on the current Millennium Development Goals. The European Union already has a lot to say in this debate with its more than 100 Sustainable Development Indicators. Eurostat's quick picture of the mixed trends of Sustainable Development in the EU is an important contribution to this debate.
