Comedian Jerrod Carmichael recently came out as gay in his Netflix special, "Rothaniel," and shared his gratitude to Ellen for coming out on her sitcom 25 years ago. He explained that his mom welcomed Ellen in their home, a feat he never thought was possible for his more conservative parents, and even joked that Ellen is a "gay, white Desmond Tutu" for spreading so much love.
