Looking for where to eat on Route 66? The Ariston Cafe in Litchfield, Illinois has been serving locals and travelers since the 1920s, making it the oldest continuously operating restaurant on Route 66, and one of the best food spots on the entire road trip. When we pulled up, it was glowing. Inside, it feels like a memory: a salad bar with thousand island dressing, a dessert tray that's truly something to behold, and the warmest people we met on this food tour. Owner Will, a Litchfield native, sat down with us and wouldn't let us leave without trying the famous prime rib. This is diner food America at its best, and proof that roadside diners still do it better than anywhere else. One of the best dishes, and best food spots, on Route 66.
