There’s nothing usual about Grant Poiner, nor the organisation he works for: The Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs of Wales. Together, they ran an Erasmus+ project called ‘Not the Usual Suspects’, which engaged young people in discussions with politicians. At the heart of this, was the ‘Not the Usual Hustings’ event, where 16 to 25 year-olds asked candidates from the main political parties why young people should vote for them in the Welsh Assembly Elections. A ‘Politically Correct’ app was also launched to explain how politics affects young people. The project won the Youth Work Excellence Award in Wales and the Best Campaign in Wales at the Public Affairs Awards.
