First, you will learn what to say to someone when they have lost a loved one. Then, you will learn some polite expressions to talk about death. Finally, you will learn some other useful vocabulary connected to death, funerals, and graveyards.

*Part one: How to express sympathy. What to say to someone when a person they love has passed away.

*Part two: Polite expressions to talk about death.
If someone is deceased how can you talk about that fact politely? He is dead (dead = adjective), or He died (died = verb) both sound too direct and harsh. It is better to use more polite expressions to describe death such as:
- He passed away. He has passed away.
- He is no longer with us.
- Dearly departed.
- He has gone to a better place.
(Note: Idioms like ‘He kicked the bucket’, ‘He bought the farm’, ‘He croaked’ etc… are also rude so it's better to avoid them. It is best to use the polite expressions taught in this vocabulary lesson.)

*Part three: Other useful for vocabulary for death and dying that are in this English lesson include:
- Graveyard / Cemetery
- Grave
- Headstone / Gravestone / Tombstone
