Chinatown's Lorong Panggung "Kwai Chai Hong" Comes Alive In Full Colour & QR Codes

When you walk along the paths of history, whether in Rome or Shanghai, the atmosphere is one of old remains and silence. Manaweblife took a walk along an old heritage street in the oldest part of KL's Chinatown and was welcomed by echoes from the past all around! This is Lorong Panggung (theatre street, literally) and is one of the oldest streets in this city's Chinatown enclave. It was a thriving trading hub for the traders of raw materials such as rice and flour from China and these buildings or shophouses have been preserved as heritage sites by the city council. Most recently, a group of citizens took the initiative to 'beautify' and restore the imageries of the glory days of this place in the early century and they have given back its rightful name, Kwai Chai Hong.
 
This video recaps some of the images before the initiative was put together. The latter part of the video reveals the transformation that can be seen on the ground, the walls and all around. The wall murals are realistically done, some in 3D, and have interactive QR codes that produce audio and sounds of the scenes depicted. It is like a walk through a time tunnel with echoes from the past! Interestingly, the structures of the buildings are original and the state of the walls are untouched too. Take a walk through this heritage street and unlock the sentimental vibes all around.
