During his postgraduate study Ben lead a team of students to Washington DC with the now iconic First Light house - a high performance, case study house that has since received numerous awards, including top international honours in building performance engineering and more recently a New Zealand Institute of Architects award for international architecture.

At just 27, without preconceived ideas of the architecture industry, and as a founding partner of the Wellington architectural practice First Light Studio, Ben is not afraid to change the way we design, deliver, and practice architecture.

Ben's talk is about the experience of building the very first First Light pre-fabricated home. Contrasting the realities of the average New Zealand home and the homes he hopes that we will come to grasp and build. The home of tomorrow.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
